There is a Balm in Gilead references both the Old and New Testaments of the Bible. The Balm of Gilead is seen as a spiritual medicine that can heal sinners and bring salvation through Jesus Christ. With this arrangement, I tried to create a simple, yet interesting setting of the well-known hymn. Each verse has a slightly different style, but there is still a unity in the general harmonic and melodic feel of the piece. This is an arrangement suited for almost any church choir looking to add some variety to a common hymn.
