The Young Oak March was composed by Lithuanian composer Kazys Daugėla (b. 1960) in 1989 for the first international festival "Trimitas" held in the city of Vilnius. The spirit of the march reflects the hopeful mood of the long-depressed people of Lithuania. The melody near the midpoint is taken from the Lithuanian folk song "The Young Oak Grew in the Forest", which is with 3/4 and 2/2 meters, but as for marching everything goes symmetrically. In this context the young oak refers to a young man whose mother wanted him to be a ploughman, not a soldier. But as the text continues, "if you haven't been a soldier, you can't be a good ploughman".

"The Young Oak" - a popular patriotic march in Lithuania composed during the Lithuanian revival. It is often performed by military bands during Lithuanian statehood celebrations and festivals. This march was involved in the world march encyclopedia March Music Notes and Program Notes for Band by Norman E. Smith (GIA Publications, Inc. Chicago)
