Published by Curtis Hanson (A0.719758).Here is a new setting of the 15th century text by John Audelay known alternatively as "There Is a Flower" or "The Flower of Jesse". The text has been adapted into contemporary English. The multiple verses of the poem are set with slight modifications to the melody, and the harmony and choral texture are also changed with each verse. The listener and performer will immediately notice the juxtaposition of D major and D minor tonality which is the biggest challenge for the singers. The organ accompaniment provides full support for much of the work making it accessible for most four-part choirs and a nice addition into the Advent and Christmas repertoire.
