Tapestry by Randall Thompson describes a character's experience while hunting for deer. The piano's moving accompaniment represents the instability of the moment in addition to the running of the deer. At the end, all the energy comes to a halt when the character makes the realization that she "could not pull [her] golden dart" to shoot the deer. It is a solo piece for a mezzo-soprano with beautiful story-telling in both the lyric and accompaniment.
