Though he composed in a wide variety of genes, Austrian composer Franz von Suppé (1819-1895) is best known as a creator of Viennese operetta. His operetta Tantalusqualen is a spirited version of a Greek myth portraying the trials of Tantalus, a kingly son of Zeus and the nymph Pluto.
