Published by Drake Mabry (A0.799291).Stillness provides an atmosphere of sonic waves appearing and disappearing and returning in new ways, all combined within one large wave of sound expression. Although written for the piano, it has also been played on other keyboards as well as the harp. Catherine Schneider, the French pianist, improviser and composer, has played this work on several continents and it has become an established part of her repertoire. I’ve noticed that she approaches the keyboard as if it were an artist’s palette of colors and her interpretation of this work demonstrates an extremely wide variety of subtle sound and color nuances in the way she draws out the sonic waves. I would suggest that any performer who wishes to play Stillness explore the diverse possibilities in which any single note may be played, both in subtle variations of volume and of color. The duration is 5'00.
