“Madrigals for the Seasons” was composed especially for Cappella SF, Ragnar Bohlin, conductor. “Spring” by William Blake was first published in his 1789 collection “Songs of Innocence.” It is a celebration of the arrival of Spring, exploring the harmony of man with the natural world. The setting introduces the piano into the cycle and is in a lively compound meter. This madrigal features practically the only melismas in the cycle on the word “merrily,” bringing the set to a joyous conclusion.
