Begin the piece with confidence, but calmly.
The piano player should be the highlight of the piece, but give room for some spotlights to the woodwinds and strings at times. Observe the fermatta at m. 14 with a great amount of anticipation, perhaps even a few beats of silence.
Allow the audience to "lean in" as they reach for the next note, then bring in the new key at m. 15 with purposeful steps into the next motif. Observe "molto rit" and "poco rit" sections to take as much time as the Director wishes, and consider the entire piece "espressivo" with overtones of warmth, as in sunlit rolling hills during an early Spring afternoon.
