SKU: A0.979547

By Elvis Presley. By Antonio DeVita. Arranged by Lisa Lenke Sousa. Contemporary. Score and parts. 14 pages. Lisa Lenke Sousa #3873189. Published by Lisa Lenke Sousa (A0.979547).

Originally composed titles "Piano" for piano by Italian composer, conductor, and pianist Tony De Vita with songwriter Giorgio Calabrese, "Softly As I Leave You." was given its English title by South African songwriter, Hal Shaper in 1961. Since its release in 1961, this beloved composition, performed by well-known performers such as Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin, Andy Williams, and Elvis Presley, also became a known orchestra, marching band, and choir arrangements.

This arrangement, 3 minutes 6 seconds long, for Horn Quartet, starts with a single Horn solo played freely in the introduction. This introduction gives a slight nod to the song "Going Home" while it soars with another melody before the solo decrescendos into the main tune.

"Softly As I Leave You" is a song that lends itself to many meanings to the listener and performer. However, this arrangement gives a melancholic feel that tells a story of someone leaving their loved ones behind. This composition makes an excellent final number, or perhaps an encore to any recital. It also shows the beauty of the instruments sounds and is an excellent choice for a melodic piece.

This product was created by a member of ArrangeMe, Hal Leonard’s global self-publishing community of independent composers, arrangers, and songwriters. ArrangeMe allows for the publication of unique arrangements of both popular titles and original compositions from a wide variety of voices and backgrounds.
