Composed by Jason Savory. 20th Century,Contemporary,Film/TV. Score and parts. 242 pages. Jason Savory #3012005. Published by Jason Savory (A0.966712).

Seven Brothers began as a small scale film score for Violin and Piano, which became the main motif for the opening measures of the full Orchestral Work. The motif consists of seven repeated quaver notes, and the supporting harmony explores semitonal and tritonal relationships.

The work is divided into several sections exploring these relationships, and introducing new ideas surrounding the initial ostinato-type figure, whilst repeatedly referencing earlier ideas.

The use of multiple complex time signatures results in - perhaps counter-intuitively - a natural rhythm and feel overall. Instead of using pauses to delay a resolution, a change in time signature is used.

Overall the piece is filmic in style, utilising motivic development and character roles, shifting through mood and tension to maintain pacing and forward momentum.
