Die Serenade für Streichorchester op. 85 gehört zu den leichteren Orchesterwerken Paul Juons. Er komponierte sie ursprünglich mit pädagogischer Zielsetzung 1928 für Schüler der Berliner Musikschule. Daher nahm der Verlag sie auch in seine didaktische Orchesterreihe „Gradus ad Symphoniam“ auf. Die von der russischen Spätromantik geprägte und dennoch ganz eigene expressive Qualität von Juons Klangsprache kommt auch in diesem Werk deutlich zur Geltung. Der 1. Satz „Allegro moderato“ besticht durch seinen tänzerischen Charakter und seine mitreißende Rhythmik, der 2. Satz „Adagietto“ bildet einen besinnlichen, fast melancholischen Mittelteil. Die Serenade beschließt wieder ein rhythmisch betonter Satz, „Tempo di marcia“, im geraden Takt mit einem kleinen Presto Finale.
