Sentimental Waltz for clarinet and piano was composed in 1989 while Carey was a student at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. The composer's later arrangement of the work for bass clarinet and piano (2015) is largely based on a version for cello and piano made in 2012. Stylistically the work evokes a romantic sensibility, marrying this with a modern harmonic language. Duration: ca. 2'50.
