This is a lead sheet with chord symbols and guitar fret boards, for a Latin or jazz group, large or small.  It serves as the foundation for a variety of arrangements, contra facts, and improvisations.

To write this bossa nova, I adapted and arranged material from the opening chorus of J. S. Bach’s "St. John Passion".  "São João" means "St. John" in Portuguese, in recognition of the Brazilian roots of bossa nova.

For me, Bach’s rich and appealing chord progressions and choral melodies, and the steady flow of the music in this chorus, as well as the popularity of Bach among jazz musicians, justify this adaptation.

The audio sample is a jazz quartet:  An iReal Pro jazz bossa nova accompaniment, combined with my tune from Finale PrintMusic.
