Every time it feels almost as if we’d never parted – and this age of Facebook immediacy feeds that illusion further. Though the separation will inevitably resume, though our lives will leave their momentary intersection and continue on their disparate paths, the familiarity and belonging that are there in the moments together make them the thing that is lasting, and the separation temporary. Reconnections represents a personal return in several ways – it is a return to the instrument I grew up playing, as well as a return to my alma mater and the city of Gainesville; most importantly, it represents a new connection to an old friend.
Reconnections was composed for clarinetist Jackie Glazier in 2013.
