Olli Mustonen, geboren am 7. Juni 1967 in Helsinki, erhielt von seinem funften Lebensjahr an Cembalounterricht und mit sieben Jahren lernte er Klavier bei Ralf Gothoni. Ein Jahr spater unternahm er erste Kompositionsversuche und erhielt ab 1975 Kompositionsunterricht bei Einojuhani Rautavaara.Steht in den Konzertsalen der Welt der Pianist im Vordergrund, rucken die Betatigungsfelder Dirigieren und Komponieren des in Hausjarvi (Finnland) beheimateten Mustonen zusehends mehr in das Interesse der Offentlichkeit.Die Toccata ist in einem Satz komponiert, und das Klavier wird mit den ubrigen Instrumenten gleichberechtigt behandelt. Die Musik beinhaltet einige Assoziationen mit anderen Komponisten, insbesondere mit Bach, aber diese gehen uber eine fluchtige Annaherung nicht hinaus.
