This work was composed for the occasion of the 28. Fête Cantonale des Musiques Vaudoises (28th Music Festival of the Canton Vaud), taking place in the Valley of Joux in June 2018. The music begins with a very simple fanfare consisting of five ascending legato notes which constitute the fundamental framework of the piece. This contrasts with the more cantabile sounding theme we hear after. The following Allegro section uses the sequence in a contrapuntal style reminding us of the Renaissance period, but with more modern day harmonies. Two solo cadenzas played by cornet and euphonium initiate the middle section, in which a theme also based on the sequence builds uptowards the climax of the piece. The sequence in the last section is played in ¾ time but gives the feeling of a “one to the bar” beat. Shortly before the festive finale, the music heard in the middle part resumes.

Dit werk is gecomponeerd ter gelegenheid van het 28ème Fête Cantonale des Musiques Vaudoises (28e muziekfestival van het kanton Vaud), dat in juni 2018 plaatsvindt in de Vallée de Joux. De muziek begint met een zeer eenvoudige fanfare bestaande uit vijf opeenvolgende stijgende legatonoten die het basiskader van het werk vormen. Deze openingsfanfare contrasteert met het cantabile thema dat daarna tot klinken komt. Het daaropvolgende allegrogedeelte gebruikt de opeenvolging in een contrapuntische stijl die doet denken aan de periode van de renaissance, maar dan met modernere harmonieën. Twee solocadensen, gespeeld door kornet en eufonium, kondigen het middengedeelte aan,waarin een tevens op de opeenvolging gebaseerd thema zich opbouwt naar de climax van het werk. De opeenvolging in het laatste deel wordt in driekwartsmaat gespeeld, maar geeft het gevoel van ‘één in de maat’. Vervolgens horen we nog één keer de muziek uit het middengedeelte, kort voor de feestelijke finale.

Dieses Werk wurde anlässlich der 28. Fête Cantonale des Musiques Vaudoises (28. Kantonal-Musikfest Waadt), die im Juni 2018 im Vallée de Joux stattfindet, komponiert. Die Musik setzt mit einer Fanfare ein, die aus einer ganz einfachen Sequenz aus fünf gebundenen, aufsteigenden Tönen besteht, welche das Grundgerüst des Stückes bilden. Danach erklingt als Kontrast ein eher kantables Thema. Das nun folgende Allegro verwendet die Eingangssequenz in einem kontrapunktischen Stil, der an die Renaissance erinnert, jedoch mit aktuelleren Harmonien. Zwei Solokadenzen im Cornet und Euphonium eröffnen den Mittelteil, der wiederum ein aus der Sequenz abgeleitetes Thema verwendet, das sichzum Höhepunkt des Stückes hin aufbaut. Der Schlussteil verarbeitet die Sequenz in einem ganztaktig empfundenen ¾-Takt. Kurz vor einem sehr festlichen Schluss wird noch einmal die Musik des Mittelteils aufgenommen.

Cette œuvre a été composée pour la 28e Fête Cantonale des Musiques Vaudoises la Vallée de Joux en juin 2018 (pièce imposée en 3e catégorie). La musique débute par une fanfare qui présente une séquence très simple de cinq notes conjointes et ascendantes constituant le matériau principal de la pièce. Un thème plus chanté est ensuite entendu en contraste. L’Allegro suivant traite la séquence dans un style contrapuntique proche de la Renaissance, mais avec des harmonies plus actuelles. Deux cadences de cornet et d’euphonium ouvrent la partie centrale, qui se poursuit avec un thème toujours basé sur la séquence qui grandit pour arriver au point culminant de la pièce. La dernièrepartie traite la séquence dans un ¾ alla breve. La musique de la partie centrale est réexposée juste avant une conclusion très festive.
