This suite is based on the musical In the Shadow of Napoleon which celebrated its exceptionally successful premiere in Worms, Germany, on 21 July 2014. The musical tells the story of Louis-Joseph Marchand, Napoleon's footman who is involved in the dispute over the emperor's inheritance and the unsolved mystery of his death. The composer strove to present the six musical songs in the suite in such a way that it appears to be an entirely new work.
Deze suite is gebaseerd op de musical In the Shadow of Napoleon, waarvan de uitzonderlijk succesvolle premiere op 21 juli 2014 in de Duitse stad Worms was. De musical vertelt het verhaal van Louis-Joseph Marchand, een lakei van Napoleon. Hij was betrokken bij het geschil over de keizerlijke erfenis en het onopgeloste mysterie van Napoleons dood. De componist presenteert de zes songs uit de musical op een zodanige manier in de suite alsof het om een geheel nieuw werk gaat.

La comedie musicale raconte l'histoire de Louis-Joseph Marchand, valet de pied de Napoleon, qui fut implique dans le conflit autour de l'heritage de l'empereur et le mystere non resolu de sa mort. Le compositeur s'efforcait de presenter les six chansons de cette suite d'une facon a donner l'impression d'une oeuvre completement originale.
