Published by Michael Butkus-Bomier (A0.862662).the Prelude in G minor, the "Military" did indeed inspire the Russian troops against the Nazi invasion. there is classic film footage of a young Emil Gilels playing the piece on a flatbed truck on an active airfield, with planes buzzing 'round. WOW! Well, our aim is not to shoot'em down, but to make music, so here is our revision of this classic two-handed unison work. In the original, the right and left are both jumping constantly, making the same music, but having to leave and leap on each 1/8-note. Our setting keeps all the melody, and all the chords intact, whilst re-distributing the same pitches to one or the other hand, not both. Some inversions have been changed to triads, or to the same inversion in both hands.
Also, the LH arpeggiated accompaniment in the middle section has precisely 1/2 the notes of the original, while preserving the harmony being expressed. So, hear it on the MP3 and see how good an impression this resetting makes. The inner 2nd melody of the middle section is still outlined with parentheses, so as not to be missed. MBB.
