studierte in Aachen Detmold und Bielefeld u. a. Schulmusik Komposition Musiktheorie Gehorbildung und Germanistik. Nach Lehrtatigkeit in Detmold und Munster ist er seit 1989 Professor fur Musiktheorie an der Hochschule fur Musik Saar von 1996 an auch deren Prorektor.
Die Neuausgabe basiert auf dem 1953 bei Breitkopf & Hartel erschienenen Erstdruck der kritisch durchgesehen wurde.
