Written primarily for those who are moving on in the world to greater things, it is meant to be a true testament to the power which has been instilled in us. The term "Pastueño" comes from the Andalucian Spanish Flamenco guitar music. Pastueño is a stylistic ability of the player described as slow and peaceful like the calm and fearless bull. We find this slow, calm gate in the repeated open 5ths of the piano. This pulse, along with the extended E minor chord is the underlying tone and driving force of the song. The tenuto and staccato repeats are meant to be imitative of the strumming of a guitar with the syncopation of the RH in the piano. Each articulation given or not given is deliberate and helps to solidify and enhance the imitation of the guitar in the piano line. The vocal line follows a soulful, jazz-inspired melody line that enhances the effect of the Spanish inspired theme. The complicated rhythms and articulations are composed in a manner to help emphasize syllabic stress and expression.
