Erich Wolfgang Korngold komponierte lediglich zwei genuin religiöse Werke: den Passover Psalm für Sopran, gemischten Chor, Orgel und Orchester op. 30 sowie Prayer für Tenor, Frauenchor, Harfe und Orgel op. 32. Beide Kompositionen entstanden 1941 im Exil in Kalifornien. Die Kompositionsaufträge hatte Jacob Sonderling erteilt, der die „Society for Jewish Culture in Los Angeles leitete. Für den Passover Psalm stellte Sonderling eigenhändig Gebete aus der Pessach-Haggada zusammen.
