Lee Dengler's flexible setting of the familiar carol includes choir, optional congregation, optional child soloist, and optional handbells. This carol, traditionally used as the opening piece to a Lessons and Carols service, is arranged with warmth and variety. The 2nd stanza's beautiful part-writing offers an enjoyable challenge for the choir, especially if performed a cappella. The third stanza features the congregation with Sopranos and Tenors on an optional descant, as well as optional Handbells or Handchimes. The piece concludes with a simple yet effective choral ending. An optional orchestration (Score and parts for Flute, Oboe (Flute 2), Bb Clarinets 1 & 2, Percussion 1 & 2, Violins 1 & 2, Viola, Cello, String Bass) is available separately.
