Mit Of Myths and Monsters knüpft Philip Sparke thematisch an sein Werk Music of the Spheres an. Die Hydra, Cassiopeia sowie Orion und Pegasus sind die Sternbilder und die entsprechenden griechische Mythen, denen die Musik in drei eindrucksvollen Sätzen nachspürt.

De nombreuses constellations étant nommées d’après des personnages de la mythologie grecque, le compositeur étudia les histoires qui ont donné naissance aux mythes et décida de fonder son oeuvre sur celles-ci. Le sous-titre - Une outrance pour orchestre d’harmonie - provient du fait que les mythes (l’Hydre, Cassiopée, Orion et Pégase) ont uniquement fourni l’inspiration initiale pour chacun des mouvements, qui ont ensuite suivi leur propre développement musical. Une oeuvre impressionnante, signée par un grand maître !
