Niflheim can be described as the realm of death” and it comes from Germanic mythology. In Wouter Lenaerts’s most recent work, which he wrote for the Flemish Brass Band Orchestra on the occasion of the World Music Competition in Kerkrade, we are taken on a musical journey to the end of time, the Apocalypse, which is caused by a devastating nuclear disaster with only one survivor. The challenging composition is full of historical symbolism and thematic elements.

Niflheim betekent zoveel als dodenrijk” en is afkomstig uit de Germaanse mythologie. In zijn nieuwste werk, dat Wouter Lenaerts in opdracht van het Vlaams Fanfare Orkest” schreef voor het Wereld Muziek Concours Kerkrade, wordenwe muzikaal meegenomen naar het einde der tijden, de Apocalyps, veroorzaakt door een alles verwoestende nucleaire ramp met slechts één overlevende. Deze uitdagende compositie zit vol symboliek en thematische elementen uit de gesciedenis.

Niflheim kann als das Reich des Todes” beschrieben werden und es stammt aus der germanischen Mythologie. In Wouter Lenaerts jüngster Komposition, welche er für das belgische Brass Band Orchester zum Anlass des weltweiten Musikwettbewerbes in Kerkrade schrieb, werden wir auf eine musikalische Reise an das Ende der Zeit entführt. Grund für die Apokalypse ist eine vernichtende atomare Katastrophe, mit nur einem einzigen Überlebenden. Diese herausfordernde Komposition steckt voller historischer Symbole und Themen.

Dans son dernier travail, écrit pour le compte du Vlaams Fanfare Orkest” l’occasion du Wereld Muziek Concours Kerkrade, Wouter Lenaerts nous propulse musicalement vers la fin du monde, l’Apocalypse, provoquée par une catastrophe nucléaire dévastatrice qui ne laisse qu’un seul survivant sur terre. Cette composition provocante est truffée de symbolique et d’éléments thématiques issus de notre histoire.
