Each song in this collection offers practice in a particular basic skill, with an accompaniment that transforms drill into music. The songs are intended to make practice enjoyable and rewarding, and can be used in either class or private instruction. The songs can be, and have been, performed on recitals. The piano accompaniments (In a separate volume) can be played by a parent or teacher. MP3's of the accompaniments are available free of charge from the author at violin1@lowmiller.net.
The audio sample you hear is an MP3 of the third song in the collection. The student plays a simple pattern of open A and D and first finger B and E, while the accompaniment adds harmony and countermelody, to transform the exercise into a song.
Included in the collection is a lovely song written by a student. Students have a happy experience and reinforce their musical understanding when they create their own compositions. To that end, we have included a “song starter” page and a short review of musical elements.
