This fourth piece in the series of 'Mosaic' works, is written for solo guitar. As in the other Mosaic pieces, a series of early, unrelated sketches were reworked to create this piece. Mosaic IV is framed by outer sections that explore a sequence of added-note broken chords. Meanwhile, the central section is more linear, consisting of textural variations of an eight-bar theme. These include the theme with added counterpoint, then in canon, and later punctuated by the introduction chords, before appearing in inversion. The opening chord sequence returns at the end, creating an overall symmetrical arch form to the whole piece. The piece is highly accessible and is appropriate for more advanced guitarists, including students and professional players.
