Morning Has Broken is a hymn originating in 1931 by Eleanor Farjeon. Made popular by folk singer, Cat Stevens in the early 1970s, this easy-listening folk version of the tune reached 6th on the Billboard Hot 100, number 1 on the US Easy Listening and Adult Contemporary Charts of 1972, and number 4 on the Canadian RPM Magazine Charts. The main aspects of the piece are the odd-numbered phrases, and its light 3/4 time waltz feel. Each repetition of the odd-numbered chorus is contrasted with an even-numbered transitional interlude. This song fits a small ensemble well, and flutes suit the easy-going feeling very well. Enjoy!
