They diminish in size, allowing each smaller size to fit in the next one. The name "matryoshka" literally means "little matron". This lovely duet is strong, conveying a nationalistic sound. The primo part stays within a 5-finger pattern and could possibly be taught by rote. The primo can stand alone as a solo performance or as a duet by either teacher or older student. Young students love to color the title page, creating their own unique sheet music.
