Published by C Melville-Mason (A0.956602).Franz Schubert’s Marche Militaire is in fact the first – and best known – of the composer’s three military marches written originally for piano duet (four hands). One of Schubert’s best-known tunes, the march has been arranged for a wide variety of instrumental combinations, quoted in other musical works and used as theme music for advertisements, promotional films and radio and TV programmes.
This arrangement for mixed woodwind trio of flute, clarinet in B-flat and bassoon also contains the charming trio section of the piece, which is too often omitted. Playing the full piece, with repeats and the da capo, is quite a test of stamina!
