The text from Isaiah 53, as well as the character of the music, makes this piece particularly appropriate for Lent and Holy Week. Though it can be accompanied, any choir that can render a respectable a cappella performance of this piece will keep it in their permanent repertoire. While it's not complex, it takes a choir that sings pretty well in tune. Note on p. 2 of octavo: "This choral piece was adapted from Georg Goltermann's organ prelude (op. 64, no. 2)."
