Lucifer is the name for the devil, or more precisely: the devil before his fall. This composition distinguishes itself by means of a grand and fierce introduction, with a reflection on, and introduction of the main theme, which is based on the devilish tritone (three adjacent whole tones). It is a spectacular piece using some impressive effects such as a brass quartet playing off stage. Throughout the work the composers uses several sequences of Bach chorales. On the one hand, this composition symbolizes the turbulent times in the world, and on the other hand it is meant to be sort of refuge, with room for contemplation. It is an excellent choice for bands that like epic pieces with a broad background story and are into impressive melodic music making.

Dit werk voor fanfareorkest werd geschreven in opdracht van de provincie West-Vlaanderen en ging in juli 2017 als keuzewerk in première tijdens het WMC te Kerkrade in de Kampioensdivisie. Lucifer is de aanduiding voor de duivel of, preciezer: de duivel voor zijn val. Deze compositie wordt gekenmerkt door een grootse en heftige inleiding met een reflectie op en introductie van het hoofdthema, dat is gebaseerd op de duivelse tritonus. Dit werk symboliseert enerzijds de woelige tijden in de wereld en anderzijds wil het als rustpunt dienen en aanzetten tot bezinning.
