The first three verses tell some of the reasons the cat loves its human and laments that the person has "been gone for so long." The fourth and final verse describes what the cat will do when the human returns. It always brings a smile. Two versions are included, one for single-strung lever harp and another for double-strung lever harp (both with identical voice part). The song is written in the key of G (one sharp) with one preset F natural and one preset B flat. There are no lever shifts during the piece. The harp range is four octaves, D to D, for the single-strung; three octaves, D to D, for the double-strung; and can be easily adapted to a smaller harp. Vocal range is G to B.
