Composed by Alan Smith. Text: Psalm 141. Versatile anthem on a popular psalm text. General, Liturgy. Octavo. Published by CanticaNOVA Publications (C5.3096).

Choir directors are always looking for good, easy music that has substance and can be learned in a short time. If it's flexible ... that's a bonus! This versatile two-part piece can be sung in any of these ways: 1. solo (high voice) / 2. duet (high & low voices) / 3. unison children's choir / 4. anthem / 5. SA anthem / 6. 2-part mixed anthem / 7. psalmody for Evening Prayer. The piece is in three parts. The first part is a refrain for unison voices on the text, "Let my prayer come up before Thee as incense; and the lifting of my hands as the evening sacrifice" [Psalm 141:2]. An original psalm tone is then used to chant ten other verses from Psalm 141. The final section harmonizes the original refrain with an optional alto part. One can choose to sing just the two refrains, or add as many verses as needed between repetitions of the refain. A brief organ introduction and coda complete this most useful piece.
