Legends of Fractonia

for Trumpet Octet by Eddie Lewis

Fractonia is the name of a short, educational, science fiction novel that Dr. Pearl Lewis wrote to help students understand fractions. Eddie Lewis' composition, Legends of Fractonia, is based on the mood and setting of his wife's novel.

It features a steady change of meter throughout the work, constantly alternating between 7/8 and 5/8. There is also a liberal use of chromaticism and dissonance to help paint a picture where fractions come alive.

The difficulty level of this composition is a bit advanced. The individual parts are not nearly as difficult as the ensemble work. The meter and complicated rhythms make it a challenge to put together. We strongly recommend using a conductor.

This product was created by a member of ArrangeMe, Hal Leonard’s global self-publishing community of independent composers, arrangers, and songwriters. ArrangeMe allows for the publication of unique arrangements of both popular titles and original compositions from a wide variety of voices and backgrounds.
