Das 18minütige Werk besteht aus vier zusammenhängenden Sätzen und führt die Spieler von einem aggressiven Beginn durch viele gegensätzliche, oft eindeutig jazzinspirierte Abschnitte zu einem langsamen Schlussrequiem. Die Solostimme ist fast ausschließlich lyrisch eingesetzt und spannt ihre weiten, trauererfüllten Bögen über der manchmal aggressiven, klaustrophobischen Begleitung. Dieses Stück ist ein herausforderndes und äußerst lohnenswertes Werk, das sich im Herzen des zeitgenössischen Cellorepertoires etabliert hat.
