On 25th May 2011 a huge fire broke out in the Kalmthoutse Heath nature reserve north of Antwerp. Within a very short time more than 600 hectares of heath land went up in flames. The effect on the surrounding environment was huge. The fire left deepscars affecting the residents, those responsible for heath land, and also the members of the fire brigade who for several days risked their lives to fight the fire.The composition Inferno begins majestically and on a huge scale, exactly as theKalmthoutse Heath is. Soon a theme is introduced into the work in which the magnificent beauty of nature can be heard. We then hear the fires on the heath set to music. Even thefire helicopter can be heard, together with the first discussions thattook place after the alarm was raised with the Kalmthoutse fire brigade.One fact remains at the centre of this work, however: the natural beauty and splendour of the heath landscape. This is expressed at the start of the work in a theme that recursthroughout the piece. Towards the end it is finally replaced by a peaceful conclusion, representing the hope for a speedy regeneration of this wonderful nature reserve.Download here the audio file for this book.

Op 25 mei 2011 brak ten noorden van Antwerpen op de Kalmthoutse Heide een enorme brand uit. In een mum van tijd ging meer dan 600 hectare heide in de vlammen op. De impact op het milieu en de omgeving was enorm. Bij omwonenden, debeleidsmakers, maarook bij de brandweerlieden die, met gevaar voor eigen leven, dagenlang met man en macht het vuur bestreden, heeft de brand diepe sporen nagelaten.Inferno start majestueus, groots, zoals de Kalmthoutse Heideis. Kort daarna is de pracht van denatuur - de pure schoonheid - hoorbaar met de inleiding van het thema van de compositie. Wat dan volgt is de verklanking van de brand op de heide. Zelfs de blushelikopters en de eerste gesprekken,gevoerd door de Kalmthoutse brandweer na hetbinnenkomen van de noodoproep, zijn te horen.Toch staat één facet steeds centraal in deze compositie: de puurheid, de pracht van de natuur op de heide. Dit facet kreeg gestaltein het thema aan het begin van het werk, dat gedurende de compositiegeregeld terugkomt. Zo ook tegen het einde, waarna het wordt gevolgd door een vredige afsluiting, die de hoop uitdrukt dat dit prachtige natuurgebied snel zal herstellen. Download here the audio file for this book.

Inferno beschreibt den verheerenden Brand in der Kalmhouther Heide nördlich von Antwerpen, der am 25. Mai 2011 ausbrach und innerhalb kürzester Zeit mehr als 600 Hektar Heideland zerstörte. Die Musik beschreibt eindrücklich den erbittertenKampf der Feuerwehrleute, den Einsatz der Hubschrauber, die Angst der Anwohner und die Bemühungen der Verantwortlichen bis hin zu einem hoffnungsvollen Aufatmen im Finale. Le 25 mai 2011, un gigantesque incendie se déclara dans la réserve naturelle de Kalmthoutse Heide, au nord d’Anvers. En très peu de temps, plus de 600 hectares de lande partirent en fumée. L’impact sur l’environnement de la région fut énorme. Cettecatastrophe marqua fortement les habitants, les responsables de l’entretien de la réserve et, bien s r, les pompiers, qui risquèrent leur vie pendant plusieurs jours pour maîtriser l’incendie.L’œuvre Inferno débute dans un climatmajestueux, incarnant la somptueuse atmosphère de la réserve de Kalmthoutse Heide. Puis apparaît un thème révélant la richesse de la nature. La musique s’altère ensuite pour évoquer l’incendie.On entend même le bruit de l’hélicoptère de la lutteanti-feu et les premières discussions qui ont eu lieu après que l’alarme eut été donnée aux pompiers de Kalmthoutse.Mais un élément suprême reste au cœur de cette œuvre : la beauté naturelle de la lande. Le thème qui exprime cette splendeuren introduction revient plusieurs fois au cours de la pièce. Au final, il fait place une conclusion paisible symbolisant l’espoir d’une régénération rapide de cette magnifique réserve naturelle. Download here the audio file for this book.

Il 25 maggio 2011 un terribile incendio scoppiò nella riserva naturale di Kalmthoutse Heath a nord di Anversa. In pochissimo tempo più di 600 ettari di terra vennero avvolti dalle fi amme. L’effetto sull’ambiente circostante fu terribile. Il fuoco lasciò cicatrici profonde tra i residenti e anche tra i vigili del fuoco che per giorni rischiarono la vita combattendo il fuoco.
