John Jacob Niles heard something like this carol and later recorded his recollection of part of the melody and words, filling in the gaps of his memory with his own beautiful writing. The string parts are moderately easy to play and require little rehearsal to produce a beautiful, contemplative moment for use in church, concert, and holiday gigging.
