Published by Robert Newth (A0.845680).Ein Heldenleben is the most epic of the Strauss tone poems, detailing 'A Hero's Life', and containing quotes from several of his other works. This arrangement for standard woodwind quintet is a slightly shortened version, around 20 minutes long, and was premiered by Prismatic Winds in Glasgow. It is very challenging but ultimately works surprisingly well for such a small group. The arrangement is loosely in four movements: The Hero, The Hero's Adversaries, The Hero at Battle, and The Hero's Retirement from This World.
The PDF download contains a full score and all five parts: Flute, Oboe (doubling Cor Anglais), Clarinet in Bb, French Horn, and Bassoon.
