Garrop notes that, because of physical constraints, only two of the violin's four strings can be held at any one time. But two violins, each with two strings held, could effectively combine to become one super-violin capable of all four strings being held at once. This element is featured throughout her three-movement Double Trouble. John von Rhein, writing in the Chicago Tribune, mentions, "...a furious, wailing ascent... lush double stops, sometimes together, sometimes in imitation...ebullient finale featured scampering dance rhythms and mildly spiced harmonies."
