Variations on a theme, depicting various sea-animals. First performance by Ian Franklin, contrabass clarinet, at The Octagon, Hull. This piece imagines a scuba-diver encountering large animals, and consists of variations on a melody I composed for another work (3 Animal Tales), plus a recurrent new melody representing the diver. The variations are: Lobster Jazz Waltz, Sea-anemone Belly-dance, Tuna Tune, Dolphin Fling, Jaws Serial and Blues Whale Pavane.
