Die Weihnachtsmotette des Leipziger Komponisten und langjährigen Kirchenmusikers an der Kirche St. Nikolai, Wolfgang Hofmann (geb. 1928), wurde bereits vom berühmten Leipziger Thomanerchor unter der Leitung von Georg Christoph Biller für die CD "Weihnachtsliederabend des Thomanerchores Leipzig" eingesungen. Die 3-5stimmige Motette ist eine moderne Auseinandersetzung mit der neutestamentlichen Gleichsetzung der Verheißung des Reisleins aus dem Stamm Isai mit dem in der Krippe zu Bethlehem geborenen Kind. Der weihnachtliche Choral "Es ist ein Ros entsprungen", den Hofmann in dieser Motette verarbeitet, lässt den Hoffnungsschimmer durchklingen, der mit der Geburt Jesu in die Welt kam. Eine singbare Motette für gute Kirchenchöre, Dauer ca 7 Minuten.
