Published by Shannon Cox (A0.1300887).This big band arrangement of the nostalgic classic Christmas Time is Here offers a new and contemplative take to a beloved holiday hit. The ballad begins with a classic big band intro reminiscent of the golden age era that quickly softens to the solo piano presentation of the melody followed by solo fluglehorn. The piece moves in and out of dark and bright harmonic colors throughout the AABA form before transitioning into a relaxed latin groove for a tenor sax solo. As the solo continues into the B section, more energy is contributed by the band backgrounds until reaching a climactic keychange and recapitulation of the melody, this time in a jazz chorale style. The piano brings the piece to its conclusion with a dream-like reharminization of the A section melody. While the piece prominently features minor-major seven chords, instrument ranges are conservative, putting the grade at approximately 3.5 or 4 - perfect for intermediate highschool jazz bands.
