By Chris Rorrer, Cellist. By Christopher Farrell. 20th Century,Classical,Contemporary,Contest,Festival,Film/TV. Individual part. 2 pages. Silver Strand Music #801297. Published by Silver Strand Music (A0.1202556).

Cello Noir is all about establishing a dark unsettling mood and creating a story of people trapped in the shadows of good and evil. As the performer of this piece, you become a character in telling that story. The opening musical statement is restated but becomes increasingly twisted as the piece then dangerously spins out of control to conclude in a fiery finish. Cello Noir is a dense composition offering the player an opportunity to stretch out and impart his/her own spin. Much as a jazz musician interprets a piece, the cellist should feel free to take careful liberties in performing Cello Noir.
