Composed by Hans Tobel. Classical. Score and parts. Composed 2009. Alea Publishing #ALEA1083. Published by Alea Publishing (A7.ALEA1083).

Dutch composer Hans Tobel's Balkan Dances (Op.18) was composed in 2009 for a small wind ensemble of 2 clarinets, 2 horns and 2 bassoons which the composer was conducting at the time. It was inspired by the melodious and rhythmical music from the Balkan region (Romania, former Yugoslavia, Albania). The first movement is a fast 5/8 in which the division in 2-3 and 3-2 appear simultaneously, which makes it rather more difficult to play than it looks. The second movement is a slow, dreamy canonic piece in 11/8 on a ostinato bass. The last movement a fast dance.
