The bass line keeps a chromatic rhythm throughout, with an option for vocal percussion in either the tenor or bass part. The first and third verses employ traditional chords, but the second verse deviates from the norm. Altos take over the melody on the third verse allowing sopranos to rock a descant line through the end of the piece.
