Composed by Gustav Holst. Arranged by Lisa Ochoco. 20th Century,Contemporary. 28 pages. Lisa L Ochoco #6089977. Published by Lisa L Ochoco (A0.559980).

Gustav Holst was a British composer and trombonist. After graduating from the Royal College of Music, he made his living as a musician until he obtained teaching positions at St. Paul's Girls' School and Morley College, where he was quite a great teacher and composer.

His most well-known composition is "The Planets".

Ave Maria was composed in 1900, shortly after he graduated from college, while he was making a meager living as a trombonist. It was originally written for women's double choir. It is said that this was the first composition that earned him public attention.

This arrangement for clarinet choir has been altered a little. Holst wrote this for a treble choir: 4 sopranos and 4 altos, or double SSAA. This arrangement is the equivalent to double SSAT or double SSAB voicing. I incorporated 2 altos and 2 basses to add depth.
