Auriga, the Charioteer was catalogued by Ptolemy in the second century, and is associated with several Greek myths. It is also part of an ancient Chinese constellation representing the chariots of the five Emperors. Moving through the keys of D major, A minor, Eb major, F# major and A major reflects the legendary characters of the Emperors. The opening melodic theme of the Yellow Emperor uses the scale of the seven stringed Chinese instrument the guqin (Pentatonic), and appears in all the other Emperor’s sections.
