Aura Lea (Aura Lee) is a song written in the mid-19th century just prior to the American Civil War.  As a ballad about a maiden it was readily taken up by soldiers on both sides, often being sung around camp fires.

The tune is perhaps best known for being used by Elvis Presley in his hit song ‘Love Me Tender’.

This arrangement, for ‘a cappella’ SSAA choir, provides some close harmony challenges, although the voice-leading is, in the main, intuitive,  Written mostly in 4 parts, there are the occasional divided voices.
