After unison second violins and violas open this arrangement with the instantly recognizable melody played in G Major, they are joined by a sweet violin 1 counter-melody. The key then changes to D Major and the melody is handed off so as to give the cello and bass sections an opportunity to shine. As the music peaks, we return again to the key of D and the 1st violins soar with a very brief foray into a few easy 3rd position notes (optional notes allow them to stay in 1st position). The music then winds down and the melody is passed around the orchestra followed by a couple of surprise chords and concluding with a whisper. Gorgeous music from an experienced arranger for young string orchestras! An optional violin 3 is included for ensembles lacking sufficient violas. .
