Designed with maximum choral flexibility in mind, the setting may be performed using either the text of "Abide with Me" or with the lesser-known text "Spirit of God, Descend upon My Heart," making this a two-for-one purchase, equally suitable for general use or for a delightful Pentecost feature. It was created with the needs of a small rural choir in mind, so it features mostly unison choral writing, with simple divisi sections at the climax section, and an attractive piano accompaniment that doubles the melody in a non-intrusive way. Choirs of as few as six voices can perform this with some dedicated rehearsal time, or choruses of thirty or more voices can perform this practically on sight.
